Special Drill Configurations

In addition to the many standard sizes and lengths shown, we produce many special drill & reamer configurations such as:

Special Overall and/or Flute Lengths

While we recommend using a standard overall and flute length whenever possible, there are situations where the use of special overall and / or flute lengths are warranted. We will be happy to quote on any such special requirements. If you have any question on the relative merits of using special lengths, CJT's application engineers will be glad to be of assistance.

Special Point Geometries

Almost any type of point that can be put on a high speed drill can be put on a tipped drill. As with high speed drills, special point geometries can be very helpful in extending tool life. Some of the special point styles we offer are:

Ball nose and radial lip point grinds
Double angle points
Flat points (180 degrees)
Split points
K notch points
Zero and negative rake cutting edges
Polyrake point
Double Margin Drills

A tipped drill can be made "double margin" as readily as with a high speed drill.

Subland Construction Step Drill

While tool life of a carbide tipped drill is limited to the usable regrind length of the minor diameter tip, subland construction is often helpful in that resharpening of the step angle can be done without undercutting the minor diameter. Excessive undercutting can lead to tool breakage.

Two Flute Extended Tip Reamers

An extended tip drill with an entry taper ground on the extended tip section for reaming out previously drilled holes.

Ask Our Engineers

The above are some examples of special purpose drill configurations we make. For more information on what
we can produce or what we would recommend in special situations, ask our engineers.
